Size & Fit Guide

We thought we’d dedicate a whole page to the subject of fit so we can let you into the magical world of slipper sizing! Hold tight; here we go……

The Secret to Slipper Sizes!

There is roughly a difference of 8mm between any given shoe size, so sizes 7 to 8 only have 8mm between them, the same with a size 3 to 4, 8mm difference, you get the idea. The reason we can cross these sizes is because of our fabric-based shoes. The nature of the soft materials we use means they will ‘give’ roughly around half a size when you’ve padded around in them for a little while.

So, if you’re a men’s size 10 and order a pair of our men’s medium 9-10, they will always feel snug on the first try as you’re putting on a size 9.5. However, for those who were paying attention, they will give half a size with wear, creating the perfect fitting house shoe. Whereas, if you are a size 9 there won’t be as much stretching going on and there is only an extra 4mm which your toes won’t notice as they are too busy being lovely and snuggly. Hooray!!

Frequently Asked Questions

So now we’ve let you into our little Homeys secret, here are some other questions we get asked about fit. We thought we’d think of all the usual ones so you can go and get yourself a brew rather than emailing us.

Not on your nelly! Homeys have had the same size moulds for over 10 years, so you know you can always get another pair when yours eventually go to Homeys Heaven.

A new pair can often feel pretty tight compared to your lovely but old knackered ones, but now you know why that is, don’t you? That’s right, they haven’t stretched out just yet! We don’t blame you – Homeys slippers last so long, you can often forget that your last pair started out in exactly the same way!

Nope! Well, not generally. A knitted pair can often give a little more than one of the more tightly woven fabrics but only minimally.  But most of our fabrics are tight-knit, so have no fear!

Yes, they are, actually. A small men’s is the same mould as a large women’s. We’re all for gender-neutral fitting slippers ’round here, don’t you know!

(Not exactly sizing, we know, but we do get asked a lot)

The best way to keep your pair of Homeys looking tip-top, is to give them a cool sink wash, avoiding detergents that could damage the fabric.

We’ve heard whispers in the halls at Homeys Manor that some pairs have survived the delicate wool spin, sometimes more than once – but only at your own risk!

We certainly wouldn’t advise using a washing machine on your Homeys as we have seen some genuinely horrific results when they come out! We’re still having nightmares.

Not a chance, buddy boy! The way Homeys are made is with a massive Homeys making machine we like to call Big Brenda. She is programmed to make each pair precisely to size and exactly the same as each pair running through her on that particular size mould. Basically, it’s physically impossible for Big B to make a boo-boo – she just ain’t built that way.

Homeys have a lovely memory-foam foot bed. This will start to flatten over time and mould to the shape of your foot, especially at the heel and ball areas. It also means it will create a little more space for your toes if you felt they were snug on first try.

As you may have read on our lovely customer reviews, Homeys are super well made and last for ages. Unfortunately, there is no set lifespan we can give to a pair, as each person and individual pair will wear differently. One pair may last longer than another, so we can’t really quantify this, it’s in the lap of the slipper gods!

We have new designs each season in the Homeys gang to freshen things up, and often bring back the most popular ones to keep your toes stylish.  As we only do fairly small runs in each design, your Homeys are technically a ‘limited edition’, so you can walk tall & proud knowing that not every Tom, Dick & Harriet has your slippers on!

Sometimes our shoe sizes change!

Ooh, we almost forgot… One more thing. Bit controversial this one.

Remember when we all used to go shopping for school shoes and the lovely lady would bring out the foot measurer? Yes, well, sadly, these are a thing of the past, so most of us have no way of knowing precisely how big our feet are.

Of course, we have a good idea as we all wear shoes, well I hope you do, you big hippie!

Our sizes change as we age, so swearing up and down that you’re an 8 and your Homeys don’t fit, might mean you’re actually closer to 8.5 or even an 8.3 perhaps.

Using our method above (hope you read it all!) you can see how this might make the size feel not quite right on first try.  But give them a chance!

Right, that’s it, I’m off for a biccie. Ta ‘ra.
